(Tuesday, 12 April 2016) “In Almagno’s artistic work the trees reveal themselves in a way, which recalls Pessoa’s verses, where nature becomes dreamlike calm and silence admiration of things”: that is the way Lorenzo Canova describes the exhibition “The trees revealed” by Roberto Almagno. The exhibition, which Canova curates, is hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute of Lisbon, in the framework of a cycle of different exhibitions dedicated to Italian contemporary art showed at the former Church of the Nobility Palace, seat of the Institute. The exhibition will open on Thursday the 14th of April at 7pm, and during the event the audience will have the possibility to hear poems by Fernando Pessoa, in Italian and Portuguese. “Almagno – highlights Canova – homages Pessoa’s writings through his sculpture, finding in the wood its elected material, but founding its conceptual centre in the poetry. The exhibition, in fact, is named after a line of Pessoa’s poem ‘Corre aos meus pés’ and wants to represent a homage to the great Portuguese poet and to his lyric vision of the world. The picture of revealing trees is, in fact, particularly close to Almagno’s work, who engages in a dialogue with the trees while sculpting, in order to let them reveal the mystery of their form and their metaphysic reality”. Almagno’s sculptures are hosted, among other places, at the Farnesina collection at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and at various other private collections. (Red)
