(April 21) Huge steps have been made in Italy in understanding the laws of the universe. High density glass with luminescent properties that contain heavy metals and rare minerals will be the focus of the collaboration between the “Enzo Ferrari” Engineering Department of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and the Fermilab in Chicago. Designed and tested by a research group from the University coordinated by Professor Cristina Sigilardi. The glass finds application in the dual-readout calorimeters of a new generation of particle detectors, bringing the Department and the Fermilab to continue their collaboration in a new project titled “Redtop”. Redtop studies the physical processes that have never been observed before and that could contribute to the understanding of the laws that govern our universe. The project intends to use the glass in the construction of experimental apparatus.
