(April 26th 2016) A piece of Trentino is also found in Australia. Aproximately 5,000 natives of Trentino live there. The delegation from Trentino, led by provincial councillor and conference member consultants Lucia Maestri and Claudio Civettini will be visiting Melbourne. Yesterday the meeting with the Italian Consul General, Marco Maria Cerbo took place and today a meeting with the President of the Chamber of Commerce in Melbourne, Tony de Domenico took place. “We are here for various reasons, on the one hand, to rediscover and maintain our connection with our roots and our past which includes emigration and on the other hand, and on the other hand to understand the evolution of our children’s generation who have also decided to pack their suitcases and move to Australia. The second reason is to understand how to make the local Trentino territory interact with the Australian one. The aim is to try to find possible connections and new ways to ensure that the excellence of Trentino finds opportunities in the Australian market” explains Councillor Maestri. The Trentino delegation met with the Italian Consul General in Melbourne at his residence. The visit has highlighted the Italian reality in this part of the world and the issues regarding the heavy flow of young people who decide to come to Australia but also stories of Italian companies that are able to find space in the Australian market. “I bring greetings from our President, Ugo Rossi, and thank you for welcoming us. We are happy to be here and especially to be able to discover and seize the opportunities of this land”.
