(May 9, 2016) The city of Mersin in Turkey will confer the “City Award” to Isabella Caneva, Professor of Prehistory of the Near East part of the MA in Archaeology at the Postgraduate School of Archaeological Heritage of Dinu Adamesteanu at the University of Salento. The award will be given on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the International Music Festival in Turkey and seeks to recognise the Italian archaeological contribution to the mission in Mersin (directed by Caneva at the Yumuktepe site, on behalf of the University’s Department of Cultural Heritage). Professor Caneva has been awarded in 2015 by the Cultural Association of the City of Mersin, annually awarded to the best archaeological researches and, more recently, has also been invited by the Musée du Louvre in Paris to present the results of her research. With the participation of many professors and researchers of the Department, the University of Salento has been leading archaeological research in Turkey for many years both in Mersin and in Hierapolis (under the direction of Professor Francesco D’Andria).
