(24 May 2016) Trade, business and work: Italy and Ghana are ever more close. The ‘Made in Italy’ companies exporting assets with a total annual value of around €205 million (data 2015) to the West African region. This was underlined today the at the Italian Embassy to Ghana who recalls that “the data provided by the Foreign Ministry shows that approximately a quarter of these exports is represented by industrial machinery.” In order to promote and develop this important sales channel with Africa, while supporting a development strategy for the continent, Italy ensures its presence through various cooperation initiatives. One such organisation is the aid credit that the General Directorate for Cooperation Development of the Foreign Ministry has made available since 2004 with a loan fund of about €30 million towards small and medium enterprises who wish to invest in Ghana using the technology and know-how from our country. The Italian Agency for the newly formed Cooperation Development, who inherited the “Ghana Private Sector Development Facility” initiative, operates in Ghana through its staff reporting directly to Ambassador, Laura Carpini.
