(June 10 2016) In the context of “The time I met… today’s writers remembering yesterday’s”, the Italian Cultural Institute in Strasbourg organises a conference for writer Michela Murgia. Tuesday June 14 at 18:30 at Kléber Library, Murgia will accompany the public on a journey to discover Grazia Deledda who is closely linked with a cultural affinity and effort to write about society in her time. She was the only Italian to ever have one the Nobel Prize for Literature (1926), she was also unjustly accused of political agnosticism for not taking part against fascism. For many years, Grazia Deledda was not very well renowned and appreciated by the Italian critics. “She was perceived for a long time as a dissonant anomaly, a kind of erroneous Nobel” recounts Murgia. Deledda, however has written works that Murgia considers to be on the same wavelength as European narrative: “Reeds in the Wind and Wuthering Heights are two novels who are completely analogous in their language, plot, themes and vision”. Thus, the title of this series of events is “The time I met… today’s writers remembering yesterday’s”. For Murgia this means remembering the depth and importance Deledda was for Italian literature and more. The conference was organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in collaboration with Ex Lirbis Comunicazione di Milano and the International Kléber Library. (PO/Red)
