(June 17, 2016) The Roma Tre University and Fao (Food and Agriculture Organisation) strengthen their collaboration on food safety, nutrition and sustainable development. The agreement anticipates the creation of new formative modules, exchange of didactic material, and internship opportunities for students. “This agreement is an important first step for ulterior forms of collaboration between Italian universities and Fao to work together for a new international agenda for development” underlines Ambassador Pierfrancesco Sacco, permanent representative of Italy to UN agencies in Rome. Roma Tre University will institute the courses “Human Development and Food Security” and “Cooperatives: Economics, Law and Management” into their English language Master programmes. These are specific modules on family agriculture, nutrition, micro-finance, cooperatives, gender matters, responsible investing in agriculture, statistical research and voluntary guidelines for land, fish, and forestry resources. Fao will supply didactic material, access to online training courses, technical support by experts and internship opportunities within the organisation. Dean Mario Panizza’s conviction is that “universities must be the engines for sustainable development and progress. This partnership will contribute to the training of a new generation of students and conscious citizens ready to confront challenges in sustainable development against hunger in the world, that is mainly due to an imbalance in the chain of distribution of resources”. The new agreement will permit students to come into contact and familiarise themselves with the founding themes of the Fao mandate for a world free of hunger, sustainable development and improving technical and professional capacities. Vice director of Fao, Daniel Gustafson declared at the signing of the new agreement “this renewed collaboration adds to Fao and Roma Tre’s work, bring a vast experience to the field in the classrooms. This will contribute to shaping future Roma Tre University experts and political decision makers”. (Red)
