(July 27, 2016) “I am grateful to Sant’Anna School for the high quality of the training it offers to me as to all students and for having introduced me to the research community from day one. Teachers, researchers and staff of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna are a great team, which supports and encourages students to always be curious and eager to deepen their knowledge, and broaden their horizons in an international dimension. Special thanks go to my tutor, Fabio Recchia, who with wisdom and experience has motivated me and drove me into the path that has now led me to Cambridge.” Enthusiastic words those of Giulio Deangeli, second year Medical School student of the university of Pisa, now ready to shine at the University of Cambridge. Deangeli has won one of 21 “Amgen Scholars” scholarship, financed by the US biotech company. He will carry out a period of experimental research of two months (until September). With the student of the School Superiore Sant’Anna, 20 other carefully selected students from all over Europe, of which only two other Italians, will spend this time at Cambridge University. During their time in Cambridge, gained thanks to the success in the international competition for a scholarship, the young researcher is engaged in the laboratory of Professor Maria Grazia Spillantini, Professor of Molecular Neurology, favorite pupil of the Nobel Prize for medicine and physiology Rita Levi-Montalcini. In Cambridge the medical student from Sant’Anna School will investigate the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease, dedicating his studies to alpha-synuclein. (Red)
