(August 11, 2016) A photographic exhibition to display the activities and achievements of the Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The exhibition – opened in recent days – will be hosted until August 26 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Cologne, which promoted it in partnership with Magnum Photos and Contrasto. The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday (from 9 to 13 and from 14 to 17). The Italian Cooperation was born in the fifties with a series of interventions of assistance implemented in countries linked to Italy from previous historical ties. Later Italy has started a more systematic cooperation designed to contribute to international efforts to alleviate poverty in the world and help the developing countries (DCs) to strengthen their institutions. Recently the new humanitarian emergencies have given cooperation an increasingly important role in Italian foreign policy choices, in harmony with the interventions for the maintenance of peace and the management of migration flows. On August 29, 2014 came into force Law no. 125 of 2014 “General Rules on international cooperation for development” that defines cooperation as “an integral and qualifying part of foreign policy”. Among the fundamental pillars of the reform is the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. The Agency, a model that exists in all main European countries, corresponds to a need strongly requested by cooperation actors and advanced in proposals for parliamentary reform initiative. (Red)
