(August 17, 2016) The famous Franch-Italian tenor Roberto Alagna will visit the Italian Institute of culture in Paris, where on 5th September he will present, through Neapolitan and Sicilian airs, his return to the sources of his Italian origins. A French opera singer of Italian origins (born in Clichy-sous-Bois in 1963), Alagna won the Luciano Pavarotti Competition in 1988, establishing himself for his bright timbre, the easy acute and soft phrasing, imposing in particular in the operatic repertoire both in French ( Faust, Romeo and Juliet, Manon, Werther, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Carmen) and Italian (L’Elisir d’Amore, La Traviata, Rigoletto, Trovatore, Simon Boccanegra, Bohème, Gianni Schicchi, Swallow). His interpretations of the French version of Don Carlos (Paris, 1996) and Lucie de Lammermoor (Lyon, 2002) are his most important works. Having later tried, with mixed results, more driven roles (Aida, Otello, Pagliacci), Alagna has also turned to a more obsolete repertoire (Cyrano de Bergerac by F. Alfano, Le jongleur de Notre-Dame by J. Massenet; Fiesque E. Lalo) and contemporary music (Marius et Fanny V. Cosma; Le dernier jour d’un condamné, composed by the tenor’s brother, David Alagna).
