(August 18, 2016) Professor Marco Vinceti from the Reggio campus of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia was invited to the United States for two months. Professor Vinceti teaches general and applied hygiene in the Department of Biomedical and Metabolic Sciences and Neuroscience at the Reggio Campus. He will spend two months at Boston University in the Epidemiology Department directed by Professor Martha Werler. Professor Vinceti’s stay is to carry out research activities in the field of epidemiology and to promote institutional collaborations between Unimore and Boston University. The scientific collaboration, which has tied professor Vinceti to Boston University regards important topics in the fields of environmental, nutrional and clinical epidemiology among which is the epidemiology of two serious and not well-known pathologies: infant leukaemia and ALS. The focus is on the study of their diffusion in Emilia and identifying their possible environmental risk factors. Other research topics at the centre of debates and study, consider the role of potassium and selenium in human health. It is a subject of great interest to the international science community from the nutritional and toxicological point of view. (Red)
