(August 25, 2016) The sea, its legends, tales of seamen and mermaid chants. Giovanni Tomaselli’s tie to this, as a native of Catania, is genetic, subsequently affirmed on the coasts of the Levante Riviera where he has lived and worked for many years. His exhibition “Octoechos – Echoes of the Mediterranean” – hosted at the Baroque Chapet of the Italian Cultural Institute of Prague- will open on September 1 at 18:00. A statement from the ICI reads: “The works of Tomaselli are a long series of existential poetic circumstances. Bad weather that develops into a storm, the anxiety of sailors to return to land, superstitions and sea monsters, seduction of sirens, days turning into calm starry nights, the wind, the melancholy song of the gulls. All of these elements combine to give the artist’s creations a patina of dreamy metaphysical suspension full of salinity and longing. The unresolved search of order that reveals the mysteries of creation and of the human condition, between an objective wonder of the destructive power of nature, becomes a metaphor for a never satisfied search, to question visual repertoire of complex visual insinuations of this exhibition design, enhanced by the sacredness of the place: The Baroque Chapel of Italian Cultural Institute in Prague “.
