Hamburg – Luciana Castellina, between the ages of 14 and 18 kept a diary that talks about her political initiation. It spans from the day in which her game of tennis with her classmate Anna Maria Mussolini was interrupted on July 25 1943 in Riccione, because the Duce’s daughter had to escape after his arrest in Rome, until the day she enrols in the PCI (Italian Communist Party). In between these two events in her life, there is the growth of a wide-eyed young girl from the Parioli area of Rome, gazing out into the world and its history. It talks about her first trips to Prague and Paris in the years immediately after the war, her first companionships, questions, rebellions, the discoveries of an impatient soul waiting to take form. This diary, revisited and enriched throughout her life, has maintained its wholesomeness and testimony about a decisive period in history for the post-war generation. “La scoperta del mondo” (Discovering the World) (Nottetempo publishers) will be the focus of the gathering between the author, Castellina and the theatre director Angela Richter. This will take place on September 16 at 20:00 at the PolittBüro of Hamburg and will be moderated by Birgt Kraatz. The event was organised thanks to the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Hamburg.
