(5 September, 2016) Scarecrows ‘meet’ contemporary art in Greece. Fourteen renowned artists, some among which renowned internationally, arrive in Santorini to gain inspiration and to present their creative ideas of scarecrows through original works of art that will installed in the Sigalas vineyard from September 9-30. The exhibition is organised by Paris Sigalas Santorini in collaboration with the ICI focuses on scarecrows, which are an important tradition of the island and other agricultural areas where it is not uncommon to find these solitary figures built with used materials and planted in the ground or suspended in order to scare away the natural enemies of crops that farmers work hard to grow. They have intimidating, bizarre, and humoristic shapes that stimulate artistic necessity and sensibility of their creators. The fourteen artists aspire to present a radical reading of the scarecrow in relation to their aesthetic research and how they view current issues”.
