(29, September, 2016) The 24th “Structural Engineering Days” began yesterday in Buenos Aires and will conclude tomorrow. The Italian Cultural Institute of Buenos Aires communicates that the city will pay tribute to a great Italian engineer, Pier Luigi Nervi for the occasion of the “Structural Engineering Days”. This will also include an exhibition, titled, “Arte e Scienza della costruzione” (Art and science of construction), that has toured other cities around the world. It is a survey exhibition of Nervi’s most iconic, some of which have been built in Argentina. Nervi has been the most iconic engineer of the twentieth century, ranging from aeronautical hangars in Tuscany to the Italian Embassy in Brasilia. From the late 1940s onwards, his career was international, initially tied mostly with South America. In 1950, he taught classes in the Department of Architecture of the Universities of Buenos Aires and Montevideo and (requested from Bardi) at the Museu de arte of Sao Paulo in Brazil. He received an honoris causa degree in architecture from the University of Buenos Aires. The exhibition is on display at the Hotel Panamericano (Carlos Pellegrini 551).
