(October 17, 2016) Nearly 200 companies, 63,500 employees (90% graduates or high school graduates), 6,100 researchers, 2.6 billion of investments in 2015 (1.4 and 1.2 in R & D in production). And then 30 billion euro production, 73% for export. These are the results of pharmaceutical companies in our country. The data were presented in recent days during the Farmindustria roadshow “Innovation and Production Value. The drug industry: a heritage that Italy can not lose” at the Bidachem Boehringer plant in Fornovo San Giovanni (Bergamo), where there was a focus on pharmaceutical excellence of the Region. Numbers that led Italy to second place – with the ambition of becoming the first – in Europe, behind Germany alone, for production absolute value but the first for per capita production. The Italian excellence in the biotech industry lies in blood products, vaccines, drugs for rare diseases, and in advanced therapies (3 of 6 approved in Europe have been born from Italian research). It is cutting-edge and forward-looking. As evidenced by the industry 4.0 technologies used in processes and treatment of diseases and 700 million euro invested in clinical trials, at the facilities of the National Health Service. Results that bode well in view of the “good tsunami” that is coming: 7,000 drugs in development in the world will play a key role in the treatment of various diseases, even in the gender medicine.
