(October 20, 2016) “Fashion in the novels of Italian literature” is the title of the conference that Prof. Gandolfo Cascio, professor of Italian Literature and Translation Studies at the University of Utrecht, held on Friday, October 21 (20-22 ) at the Italian Institute of Culture in Amsterdam. Every work of art provides us with a wealth of information about itself but also about the author and its historical and social context. One of these elements is fashion: well analyzed in painting and film and, instead, neglected by literary analysis because often considered superficial or, even, frivolous. It is not. During this conference we will try to re-read and to investigate the aesthetic and cultural significance of fashion in some important contemporary authors: from D’Annunzio to Pirandello, from Penna to Pasolini, from Moravia to Morante, to some of our contemporaries like Arbasino and Tondelli, Montefoschi and Grasso. Under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, the event is promoted as part of the sixteenth week of the Italian language in the world, entitled “Italian and creativity: brands and costumes, fashion and design.” (Red)
