(19 January 2017) The public theatre of Zilina is putting on Alessandro Baricco’s “Smith & Wesson” (translated by Frantisek Hruska’s text, directed by Anton Sulik with Brano Baco, Michal Tomasy, and Juliana Olhovad). In collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Bratislava, the dates for the show are 21 January and 14-15 February. The opening scene of the pièce, published by Feltrinelli, is Tom Smith and Jerry Wesson’s encounter in front of the Niagara Falls in 1902. In their names and surnames lies the destiny of a business. The birth of their enterprise coincides with the arrival of Rachel, a young journalist looking for a scoop and confident that she will get one. She needs to find the courage to tell the story but first of all, the courage to witness it first hand. For this she needs Smith and Wesson, the two wildest and failed conmen that she can attach to her train of imagination and adventure. She also needs a barrel for beer and to be transported by the current for something that has never been done before- descending the Niagara Falls in a barrel of beer and the date is 21 June of 1902. Will everyone remember who is Rachel Green? Will she really be the one to tell the story? (Red)
