(27 January 2017) After their first Italian-Japanese album and an 8-day tour around Japan between Tokyo and Kawasaki, Ultveggi’s new album “Altri Mondi” (Other Worlds) will be released today (Alemendra Music). Ultveggi is a rockband from Palermo formed by Valerio Mirone (vocals), Simone Giuffrida (guitar and vocals), Bruno Pitruzzella (guitar and vocals), Luca La Russa (bass and vocals), and Giuseppe Montalbano (drums and vocals). The new album consists of “sixteen small frames for just as many strange lives” according to Utveggi. “Among these is the story of a forgotten world (‘Gamba Re’), a small nativity that blossomed in a basket of strawberries (‘Presepe 1’), the chant of fishermen in a land never touched by water (‘leccalo a mare’). The musical dialogue unfolds through a distorted rattling sound and harmonious vocals, woodwinds, rusty clang, classical elements, and barrages of grunge. In a single word: ‘divertissepunk’ “. “Altri Mondi”s lyrics (primarily written by Valerio Mirone) are primarily in Italian a part from “Mizu” and “Caffè” which are sung in Japanese, and also include two songs sung in Sicilian dialect. Their music is inspired by world literature, transforming its contents with irony and infusing it with a dreamy atmosphere and narrative structure. ‘Gambe re’ loosely based on “Futebol. Storie di Calcio” (Futebol. Football Stories) by O. Soriano; “Altri Mondi” (Other Worlds) is loosely based on “Faust” (1891) by F. Pessoa; “Disadattitudine” on “Il mondo salvato dai ragazzini” (1968) by Elsa Morante and “Turbature” on “Foglie d’erba” by Walt Whitman. Soon their music video for “Altri Mondi” will be available online (filmed, edited and produced by Antonio Cusimano also known as 3112htm). (red)
