Beirut. The Italian UNIFIL bomb squad and the UN forces in southern Lebanon intervened to secure an area near the border with Israel, where a shell from the 2006 war between the Jewish state and the Shiite militia of Hezbollah was found. The 155mm shell without a fuse, was defused by the military of the 3rd regiment Genio Guastatori, within the Western sector of UNIFIL. Despite the passing of 10 years since the so-called “summer ‘s war” between Israeli and the Hezbollah militia, the discovery of the unexploded device is still a current and important issue especially during the rainy season. The Italian military has always taught the local population, especially children about this danger and advise them to warn the authorities in case a device is found. (9Colonne)
