Maastricht. This year, works on loan to TEFAF Maastricht, one of the most important art and antiques fairs in the world that takes place in Maastricht bears the signature of the famous Italian museum – The Borghese Gallery in Rome. The treasures to be showcased in the exhibition titled “Borghese Gallery – An Italian Legacy” from March 10 to 19 at the MECC exhibition centre, include a very important selection of paintings and sculptures from the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The works that will soon travel to Maastricht are a perfect example of Scipione Borghese’s (1577-1633) passion for collecting, the nephew of Pope Paul V (1552-1621), who used his cardinal position to build one of the richest and sought-after collections of his day.
