Lausanne – Stefano Volpi, a researcher at the Giannina Gaslini Institute of Genoa, in collaboration with the Universities of Lausanne and Harvard shows that EXTL3 gene mutations are the cause of a new syndrome that causes bone dysplasia and immunodeficiency. The study, published in the prestigious Journal of Experimental Medicine, has been a long investigation work accomplished in large part thanks to the perseverance of a young researcher from the Gaslini Institute, Dr. Stefano Volpi, who worked several years overseas in the laboratory of the prestigious Harvard University and, thereafter, at the University of Lausanne, where he had the possibility of using very advanced techniques, such as cellular reprogramming and study of gene alterations in zebrafish.
