Turin – On March 13 at Palazzo Lascaris the president of the Regional Council of Piedmont, Mauro Laus, met Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mhammed Khalil. The meeting, in an atmosphere of cordiality and collaboration, has allowed an open discussion on sensitive issues such as the condition of the Saharawi people, the indigenous Arab population of Western Sahara. In fact, the demand for independence and recognition to European states by the Polisario Front (political party of the Saharawi Republic, in Western Sahara) has created some controversy. President Laus told the Consul about the meeting he had with a delegation from the Moroccan community in Turin last week, following a similar meeting the Assembly vice president, Nino Boetie, had with Fatima Mafud representative of the Polisario Front days before. The Moroccan delegation asked the presidency to screen carefully what illustrated by the representative of the Polisario Front and to assess its support requests received by the Human Rights Committee.
