(14 April 2017) “Giorgio de Chirico. Apparizioni metafisiche” (Metaphysical Apparitions) is the title of the upcoming exhibition at the Treyjakov Gallery in Moscow on April 20th. The Tretjakov Gallery will host the first large-scale Giorgio De Chirico exhibition in Russia thanks to the collaboration with the Fondazione Isa e Giorgio De Chirico and other important Italian lending institutions such as GNAM (National Gallery of Modern Art) in Rome and MART (The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto) and with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute and Bosco di Ciliegi as part of the Festival Bosco di Ciliegi. Giorgio De Chirico (1888−1978) was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century; considered the precursor of Surrealism, and founder of Metaphysical painting. In 1929, four of his works were exhibited for the first time in Moscow followed by an exhibition of his drawings and etchings in 1930. The De Chirico Foundation was founded in Rome in 1986 by his widow Isabella Pakswer Far. The Foundation inherited the greater part of his artistic patrimony after Isabella’s demise. The Moscow exhibition will remain open to the public until July 23 and features a selection of approximately 100 paintings, prints, sculpture, and theatre costumes De Chirico designed in 1929 for “Le bal” produced by Sergej Djaghilev’s Ballets Russes. Accompanying his works will be archival materials and photographs. (Red)
