Bologna – Italian agriculture has become the greenest in Europe with the highest number of food certification at Community level for Dop / Igp origins, leading in the number of companies that cultivate organic, but also the low incidence of Agro-food products with outdated chemical residues and the decision not to cultivate genetically modified organisms and prohibit hormones in fodder for meat. This is what Coldiretti says on the occasion of the environment G7, which will take place in Bologna on June 11 and 12. Italy – said Coldiretti – is the only country in the world with 4,965 traditional culinary foods, 291 Dop / Igp specialties recognized at Community level and 415 Doc / Docg wines, but is also Europe’s leader with almost 60,000 organic farms . On the national territory – explains Coldiretti – there are 504 varieties recorded in the vine register against 278 of the French cousins and 533 varieties of olives against 70 of Spain, but in Italy there are well over 40,000 farms engaged in the preservation of seeds or plants at risk of extinction.
