Rome. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, received Ambassadors from member countries of the Arab League accredited in Italy at the Farnesina (Foreign Ministry headquarters). A statement from the Farnesina reads: “The meeting was a useful opportunity to examine shared interests. The request of Arab countries on the Middle East peace process was discussed to which the Farnesina reiterated Italy’s official position which is anchored in the prospect of the two States and the resumption of negotiations”. “The prospect of two States is the only truly achievable one and is in the best interest of both parties involved and – in addition to the legitimate aspiration to the self-determination of the Palestinian people – is the one that best preserves the regional stability that we all want” stated Alfano during his speech. On the crisis areas in Syria and Libya – another issue at the centre of today’s debate – the minister urged all key regional players to exert their positive influence on the parties involved, underlining the importance of international co-operation in the fight against terrorism and radicalisation.
