Brussels. Sending emergency signals from a nano-satellite in space when land-based communications infrastructures are out of use: this is the task of the SatAlert experiment developed by the Information Engineering Department (DINFO) and the National Interuniversity Telecommunications Consortium (CNIT) of the University of Florence to test and validate an emergency communication protocol. The experiment is part of the D-Sat mission – the launch of the first satellite that can be removed from orbit at the end of its life in a controlled and direct way thanks to a smart propulsion system designed by the Italian start-up company, D-Orbit. The mission has more than one link with the University of Florence. D-Orbit is one of the startups hosted by the Incubatore Universitario Fiorentino since 2012 and in recent years, has worked in synergy with the CNIT research of the University and the DINFO team (9colonne)
