(1 September 2017) Italy will be represented with six films at the 61st edition of the BFI London Film Festival (October 4-5). It is one of the main European film festivals supported by the British Film Institute. The films selected by Filmitalia of Istituto Luce Cinecittà include “Suspiria” by Dario Argento, 40 years since its release, in the cult section. “La Tenerezza” (Holding Hands) by Gianni Amelio makes its European premier in the Love section of the festival. “Call Me by Your Name” by Luca Guadagnino was recently shown at Sundance Film Festival in the United States followed by Berlin and Toronto. It will be presented at London’s Mayor’s Gala in the presence of the Mayor. In the ‘Dare’ section straight from Cannes are two films antipodal in style but both linked to ‘Bildungsroman’ (novel of formation): “A Ciambra” by Jonas Carpignano (currently in Italian cinemas) e “Sicilian Ghost Story” by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza. “L’equilibrio” (The Balance) by Vincenzo Marra (Journey section) straight from the “Giornate degli Autori della Mostra del Cinema di Venezia” (Venice Days), where the “triangle of death” is described in more than 100 sequence shots. Also worth mentioning are “Three Peaks” by Jan Zabeil, an Italian co-production already shown in Locarno and Toronto. (Red)
