Sydney. “Australia’s New Wave of Italian Migration: Paradise or Illusion?” is the title of Bruno Mascitelli and Riccardo Armillei’s new book which will be presented today at the University of Sydney during a conference organised in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture. Much has been said about the Italian immigration phenomenon in Australia in the 1950s and 1960s, but very little is known or understood about the recent new, young, educated, and well-prepared wave of Italian immigrants. This book, which is the product of more than two years of research focused on this recent migratory phenomenon, seeks to bridge this gap by examining the many aspects of temporary or permanent migration of Italians to Australia. By examining the meaning and scope of the growing temporary and permanent immigration to Australia between 2004 and the end of 2015, the book gathers a series of opinions from experts to explain this phenomenon still somewhat unexplored.
