Athens. The theatrical piece in Italian “La grande guerra meschina” will be held on Friday March 30th at 19:00 at the Italian Institute of Culture in Athens. One hundred years have passed since the end of the First World War. As part of this anniversary, the IIC of Athens presents the theatrical piece that for years has been dealing with stories, mutinies, desertions, indiscipline, hatred of officers, fierce jokes against authorities and institutions, and the painful war songs tuned into the trenches: the taboos of the Great War, to discover that it was anything but fought with the fury of the people but, on the contrary, was fought (deliberately) against the people. In addition to the theatre performance, there will be ballads against the war by Bertolt Brecht with music by Kurt Weill, Boris Vian, songs by Italian singer-songwriters like Eugenio Finardi and Ivano Fossati, and popular melodies that emerged in the first post-war period. Texts and direction: Alessandro Anderloni. Musical research: Raffaella Benetti and Thomas Sinigaglia. Alessandro Anderloni (narration), Raffaella Benetti (vocals), Thomas Sinigaglia (accordion).
