Copenhagen. For centuries, Danish artists traveled to Italy and participated in the artistic life of the two countries. Læsø Kunsthal and the Italian Institute of Culture in Copenhagen renew this special relationship between Denmark and Italy with an exhibition dedicated to the Italian painter Giovanni Meloni and his longtime collaborator, the Danish sculptor Jørgen Haugen Sørensen. The exhibition “Via Lattea / Milky Way” – which will be inaugurated on April 5th at the Italian Institute of Culture – showcases recent works on a subject dear to both artists, the social and political imbalances observed in society. The works revolve around topics such as economic inequality, the culture of control, increasing nationalism, and modern slavery. With monochromes, abstract, expressive and figurative works, unconventional miniatures and formats, the exhibition offers a wide selection of works by Meloni from the 1970s to date, born from the collaboration between the two artists, including some of the new ceramic reliefs by Haugen Sørensen. The opening of the exhibition will be preceded by a a talk held by the exhibition’s curator, Nina Wöhlk followed by a musical performance by percussionist and performer, Einar Nielsen. (9Colonne)
