Tirana. The Library Italian Institute of Culture of Tirana hosts a series of events titled “Nights of European Cinema”. The next event will be the screening of the film “Fuocoammare” by Gianfranco Rosi on Thursday May 10th (from 19:00 to 21:00). Rosi spent two years in Lampedusa to recount the southernmost area of Italy and the one closest to Europe for the mass of human beings who start their journey from Africa in search of a better life, or simply a life in general. Rosi has dedicated his lifetime to the creation of “Fuocoammare”. Produced with Rai Cinema together with Istituto Luce Cinecittà and distributed by 01, the film was shot on the island of Lampedusa, and talks about two main realities: those who were born and raised there, especially fishermen, and the migrants who come to Italy from North Africa crossing the sea. Among the protagonists of the film is a young boy Samuele, whose days at school, fishing, and family are recounted by Rosi and Dr. Pietro Bartolo, the doctor of Lampedusa who in recent years has faced firsthand all the health problems – and not only – that concern migrants, from pregnancies to numerous deaths. The film won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in 2016.
