Cordoba. Alcohol intake during pregnancy can cause the unborn fetus to become anxious and are more predisposed to becoming alcoholic as early as adolescence. This is the result of a preclinical study conducted by Claudio D’Addario, Professor of Molecular Biology in the Faculty of Biosciences of the University of Teramo, in collaboration with the research group of Ricardo Pautassi of the National University of Cordoba (Argentina). The results of the research were recently published by the journal “Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry” in an article titled “Prenatal ethanol induces an anxiety phenotype and alters expression of dynorphin & nociceptin / orphanin FQ genes” in which D’Addario analyses the relationship between alcohol intake during pregnancy and risks on unborn children.
