London – That environmental factors can contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, especially rheumatological ones, is a concept supported by ever-increasing scientific evidence. Demonstrating the role of environmental pollution in the determinism of these diseases, it broadens the spectrum of risk factors, but also the field of intervention and prevention. And this is the context of the research coordinated by Guido Valesini, from the Department of Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties of the University La Sapienza, in collaboration with Silvana Fiorito and the researchers from the Institute of Translational Pharmacology (IFT) of the National Research Council (Cnr), recently published in the “Cell Death & Disease” magazine.
