(Mar. 15) – In the last 5 years, the positions held by Italians in companies from other countries grew up by 50%. The total number of managers engaged outside Italy is about 4,000, of which about 75% in Western Europe. This is shown by a survey conducted by Amrop, the first independent group of executive search, present in over 50 countries. Amrop has compiled a handbook of the qualities that a manager must have in a “globetrotter climbing”. He should be ready to move to different country each 3-4 years and be aware that the trip is often one-way. There are great sacrifices to face, especially for the family. Some managers choose to bring partners and children, others maintain the base in Italy. On a professional level, also a manager needs to gather experience in various positions in different countries. Then he need to fully assimilate the culture of the head office.
“A top manager of a corporation must be French if the headquarter is in Paris, American if in Chicago, German if in Frankfurt,” so said Gai, partner of Amrop. (Ram/Peg)
