The Italian steel-mill engineering company Danieli has signed today an agreement with Serbia to set up a 500 million-euro steel plant, which will produce around 750.000 tons of steel per year by 2015.
The investment will begin soon and “it could take three years to reach the full output capacity,” said Bozidar Laganin, head of Serbia’s Investment and Export Promotion Agency, right after Danieli’s Executive Director Franco Alzetta signed the accord with Serbian officials in Belgrade.
Clients of the future plant, near the western town of Sabac, will include FIAT’s car factory in Serbia, as announced by President Boris Tadic. The “Danieli plant may become the steel-sheets supplier of the Serbian factory of the Italian Fiat in three years,” said in an interview Antonio Ferrara, the head of Fiat Serbia, which will start making the new 500L model next month.
Danieli signed the document with Serbia after nine months of talks. The Italian company sought to ensure steady supplies of electricity and gas without disclosing the agreed terms.
