(Apr. 25) – The work for the expansion of Cityringen, Copenaghen underground, considered by many one of the European technologic jewels, has started. The project, which is to be completed in 2018, will be realized by Salini, an Italian company with more than 70 years of experience with major infrastructures. Another Italian company, Ansaldo STS, is to deliver the trains and control system and to have responsibility for the first five years of operation. Ansaldo already supplies driverless trains to metro lines in Copenhagen, Riyadh, Brescia, Milan, Thessalonica and Taipei
To celebrate the launch, the Embassy of Italy in Copenhagen has sent an official message to welcome all the management, technical and administrative staff of the two companies. When completed, the project will give the Danes 17 new underground stations, with two tunnels of 17.4 km and 17 km. The line will run all day, with minimum intervals between trains of just 100 seconds to ensure the mobility of 130 million passengers a year. (Red/Peg)
