(May 29) After presenting the project “Masterplan “at the European Maritime Day, in Milan, the waterway system of Mantua and Cremona has been protagonist in Antwerp, Belgium, at the prestigious the World Conference on Transport Research (WCTR). The two Italian provinces has been represented in the summit by ALOT (Agency of East Lombardy for Transports and Logistics). Engineer Chiara Bresciani from ALOT has illustrated the infrastructures of the area as a valid proposal for future development collaborations with foreign stakeholders. The presentation was part of the European LOG-CAP project, which is funded by DG-MOVE and aims to create a network between the port authorities for the promotion of inland waterway system, offering packages that encourage the installation and technical assistance. “In East Lombardy, all the ports have rail services. However, these structures are partially under-utilized and private companies operating in the area have problems finding a suitable space for their logistic activities, due to the chronic congestion that affects the most important logistic hub of Northern Italy,” explained ALOT. “That’s why we are encouraging the use of our existing port infrastructure by local private operators.”.
