(Jun. 27) – “The working group ‘Air’ has presented to the European Parliament a shared document that aims at contributing to the current revision of the Directive on air quality.” So stressed out Maurizio Conte, Coucillor for the Environment of the Regione Veneto, who has participated in the work in Brussels. The group “Air” is composed by 12 regions from seven EU member states: Baden-Württemberg, Catalunya, Emilia-Romagna, Flanders, Greater London Authority, Hessen, Lombardia, North Rhein Westphalia, Piedmont, Randstadt, Styria and Veneto. These areas represents 22% percent of the EU GDP and 18% of Europe’s population (about 90 million inhabitants). The conference has been attended by representatives of the regions involved, with the participation of the European Commissioner for Environment Janez Potocnik, the Vice President of Cabinet for European Commission Antonio Tajani and representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy. Conte confirmed the special situation of Veneto and of the Po valley, which requires – while respecting environmental protection – to safeguard the economic structure characterized by the presence of small and medium enterprises committed to innovation for sustainable development. And the “sustainable mobility” has also been the theme of the seminar organized by MEP Antonio Cancian and Regione Veneto, held at the European Parliament and during which it has been presented the project “Transitects” that aims to balance and integrate alpine and subalpine transport to reduce environmental impact and at the same time to increase economic exchanges.
