(May 17) – While the number of Chinese who visit Venice and the Veneto increases, the food products of the region, such as tiramisu and Prosecco, are becoming increasingly popular in China. And this “is an element of confidence to use as a tool to expand economic relations with a culture and a market where the economy continues to grow despite the global crisis,” said Marino Finozzi, Regional foreign trade Councillor. “It would not be the first time in history that the food and wine open the door to new economic exchanges and trade,” Finozzi has added, “and China can also be seen as a country with one and a half billion consumers.” Not only a competitor but also a promising market for the Italian economy, and specially for the North East regions. According to a study by Assolatte, in fact, the Chinese are the biggest fans of tiramisu, the most famous dessert in the world created in Treviso, in the Veneto region, in the early 70s of last century. The cake is quoted over 14 million times on Chinese websites. And the China Daily, one of the leading newspapers in China, in early May has given space to PDO Prosecco, the Italian sparkling wine from Veneto and the North East, which is imposing itself as a worldwide phenomenon.
