The August tour of the European Union Youth Orchestra goes to Amsterdam, after successful dates in Germany, Austria and the UK. The tour will pass by Italy, in Stresa and Rimini, on August 27 and 28 respectively. The Orchestra is composed of talented musicians between the ages of 18 and 24 from the 27 EU countries. It was founded in 1976 to uphold the spirit of peace and communality, which inspired the European Union, and its first director was the Italian Claudio Abbado. This year, Dirk Brossé, director of the Symphonic Orchestra of Philadelphia, takes the young musicians on a musical tour, from Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Busoni and Respighi to the London Olympics inspired “Twenty-Seven Heavens”, by Richard Causton.
