(Aug. 21) “The Modern Hermit” is a play by the ‘Instabili Vaganti’, a theater house from Bologna, which will bring the show to the Stockholm Fringe Festival from August 22 until August 25, after a selection committee singled it out from a pile of 1300 proposals. On Friday and Saturday, the Fri Scen Stockholms Stadsteater will host the Italian artists who reinterpret the repetition of gestures and alienation so strongly associated with industrial work. Yet, the play is not inspired by 19th century literature, but by a modern case of factory workers, that of Taranto’s ILVA. Workers who struggle between the urge to flee their polluting iron cage, but are tied down to it by their economic troubles. Before leaving for Sweden, the Bolognese company spent time in Taranto to closely follow the human and legal developments of the controversial case.
