Nov. 9 – Ansaldo Breda, a Finmeccanica Company, has been awarded a contract worth about $ 300 million for the supply of 136 new subway cars in Miami (Florida), operated by Metrorail. The delivery involves the construction of six pilot vehicles and 130 carriages. The components of the new trains will be built in the Italian production sites, then assembled in a new plant that the company will build in the county of Miami-Dade. The vehicles will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, with LED lighting and energy-efficient surveillance system, wi-fi. The design is innovative and fully in line with the requirements and standards of the U.S. and Florida in particular. Ansaldo Breda is a leading provider of metro in the U.S., with a production of more than a thousand trains found in many cities such as Washington DC, Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Cleveland and San Francisco. Added to this is the work of modernizing Buffalo vehicles and the construction of the without driver metro in Honolulu, in collaboration with Ansaldo STS. “This success – said the CEO, Maurizio Manfellotto – shows that our global repositioning program is giving the expected results. We are increasingly able to present innovative products in terms of technology and quality, while maintaining a high level of competitiveness. Winning this contract proves that we are as qualified as other French and Spanish companies on the US market”.
