Nov. 30 – His name is Lorenzo d’Alberto, 23 years old, and he was born in San Donato Milanese, in the province of Milan. He was recently awarded the prize for best USA University athlete for 2012. For four years, the young Milanese has been living in the US, where – thanks to a grant obtained for sporting merit – he attended the University of Louisiana in Lafayette – the flagship of the Water Ski Team with which he won the University Championships 2012 in October. D’Alberto is enrolled in the Industrial Technologies Department (Itec), and will graduate in May 2013. Lorenzo was involved in a very exciting season, especially overseas, where he lived and studied for nine months of the year while performing exceptionally well: fifth in the All-Stars slalom, third in figures, and second in the combined jump, dominating the jump race at night, third in figures and jump in the Nationals.
For the National Team he participated in the summer for the first time in the European Championships, reaching fifth place in the European Cup. “I am honored to receive this award – for the first time given to an Italian athlete. I’m still surprised – said Lorenzo – I want to thank especially my family – he added – for giving me the opportunity to study in the United States, and all the people that have trained me over the years. Among them a special thanks goes to Marina Mosti and Patrick Buzzotta from Fisw who helped me grow and become the skier I am today.”
