Dec. 4 – Poetry, film, and art: Pier Paolo Pasolini all-rounded career is on exhibition at the MoMA in New York. The Cinecittà Luce Institute, The Museum of Modern Art and the Fund Pier Paolo Pasolini-Bologna Cinematheque promoted a comprehensive retrospective that celebrates the film director, from December 13 to January 5.
Pasolini’s film legacy is characterized by an unerring eye for composition and stylistic simplicity in a variety of genres – many of which are expressed according to his inclinations and shaped with his distinctive flair. Pasolini’s unique talent in creating images that evoke the inner truth of his short life (1922-1975) is clearly expressed in his films. The complete retrospective presents new copies of his famous films, produced by Cinecittà Luce Institute, some of which have been recently restored by the Bologna Film Library.
Accompanying the retrospective, a series of events honor Pasolini’s multi-faceted career. On 12 December, at Casa Italian Zerilli-Marimò at New York University, a round table on his artistic legacy will be held, coordinated by Antonio Monda; and on 13 December, the Italian Institute of Culture, directed by Riccardo Viale, will host a seminar entitled “Pasolini: a writer for the New Millennium,” chaired by Fabio Finotti, professor at the University of Pennsylvania. The book “Pier Paolo Pasolini, my cinema,” will also be presented: an anthology including interviews, stories, notes, preliminary texts, stories and scripts retrieved from Pasolini’s sole heir, Graziella Chiarcossi, with the collaboration of Roberto Chiesi Fund (Pasolini – Bologna
Cinematheque) and published by the Film Library of Bologna and Istituto Luce Cinecittà. On 14 December, there will be readings of songs and poems carried out by famous Italian and American actors, supervised by Dante Ferretti – who began his career as a designer with Pasolini – to enhance the talent of Pasolini as an essayist, poet and author.
