Dec. 26 – Favini, in line with its commitment to safeguard the environment, renewed in 2013 the support to Madagascar. The island, located off the coast of Africa, sees Favini working in collaboration with the University of Padua, to improve the living standards of the community of Sahavondria. By teaching the most innovative farming techniques, it is possible to respect the local ecosystem, while contributing to the development of regional eco-tourism. Baptized “Voiala”, the project is a microcosm of the EU actions to recreate and protect heavily exploited natural resources. The main objective of the project is to develop, through the experience of the village of Sahavondria, a model for the other communities, highlighting the benefits that can be obtained from the planet and its resources by simply adopting an aware and responsible behavior. Currently, the inhabitants of this village, located on the east coast of Madagascar, are committed to protecting 2040 hectares of virgin forest and reforest their land, destroyed by decades of exploitation. Favini is proud to have helped, in 2009, the local communities regain control of their territory, providing his know-how and financial support. He also promoted awareness campaigns to make the project’s objectives clear: protect the forest and reforest the land damaged by illegal logging and poaching.
