Jan. 14 – It left this morning at 11:05 Alitalia’s first flight from Roma Fiumicino to Fortaleza, capital of Ceara, in Brazil’s Northeast.
The new connection, served twice a week, strengthens Alitalia’s presence in Brazil, by adding a third destination to the already established Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. It also expands the intercontinental network by positioning itself as the first company in terms of connections between Italy and Brazil. Today, Alitalia operates up to 17 weekly flights to Brazil, of which 9 out of Sao Paulo and 6 to Rio de Janeiro, and the two to Fortaleza, the latter being served by new Boeing B777. Gianni Pieraccioni, Chief Commercial Officer, stresses that this new connection strengthens Alitalia’s expansion plan for its international and intercontinental network.
Indeed, since the end of October, Alitalia has carried out new connections to Abu Dhabi, Zurich, and Yerevan. But Alitalia’s ambitions do not stop there, as it will also introduce, from January 29, flights between Rome and Prague. In the coming months, with the beginning of the summer season, the expansion of the network will continue with a number of other international connections from Rome, among which Copenhagen (Denmark), Bilbao (Spain), Ankara (Turkey) and Krakow (Poland).
