Jan. 16 – Tiramisu is the most eaten, most appreciated dessert in the world! Recently, the Italian dessert has literally conquered the Chinese market, one of the greatest admirers of Tiramisu, now mentioned on Chinese-speaking websites more than 14 million times. And tomorrow, from New York to Moscow, from Beijing to Buenos Aires, several cooks and chefs will prepare together the most popular Italian dessert. Tiramisu was born in Treviso, and tomorrow is the “World Day of Tiramisu,” as part of the 6th edition of the International Day of Italian Cuisine, promoted and coordinated by the Group Italian Chefs, a network that brings together over 2,000 chefs and restaurateurs in more than 70 countries. Tomorrow’s event will “provide some historical truth to the origins of tiramisu, and the role it played (when accompanied by Prosecco) in making Treviso, and the whole Veneto region, one of the greatest food and wine landmarks in the world,” said the Head of Tourism and Foreign Trade of the Veneto Region, Marino Finozzi. “The World Day of Tiramisu is an opportunity to reaffirm this historical and cultural tradition – said Finozzi – because it is thanks to the many inventions that have as first ingredient passion and second taste that Venetian food and wine has made its way into international markets. Indeed, the regional food and wine business is also responsible for the level of tourism inflows to Veneto, mounting to 63 million overnight stays, of which approximately 62% from foreigners. These figures remained stable throughout 2012, as the rest of Italy noticed an relevant decrease in foreign tourism inflows.
