Jan. 24 – The success of the Giffoni Film Festival, founded in 1971, knows no borders. The Giffoni Experience just landed in South America for the first edition of the Giffoni-São Paulo International Film Festival, to be held from January 28 to February 1. Brazil adopts, therefore, the Gff’s success formula. The theme of the first edition is “Love”, which also marked the 40th anniversary of the Giffoni Film Festival. The event has 16 cinema films in competition (from 11 countries): 14 selected from the best productions presented in the last two years at the Giffoni Film Festival and 2 Brazilian productions selected by the festival of São Paulo. This choice embraces strong themes, such as the difficulty and complexity of family relationships and the complicated world of adolescence, at the root of misunderstandings and problems between adults and children. Five films will be out of competition and open to the public, much like the meetings’ program with producers and directors, debates, workshops, concerts and live performances. “To promote the dissemination of culture, it is essential to invest in young and creative minds – says Claudio Gubitosi, artistic director of the Gff – and the Giffoni Experience has already released its formula in every corner of the globe: in Australia, the United States, Poland, Albania, and Qatar. The Brazil festival is a special event, at a crucial moment for the country, as it is the center of unprecedented economic and cultural growth.”
