Feb. 12 – Eni has renewed its research program in partnership with the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) during a ceremony held yesterday in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The agreement, signed by the President of MIT Rafael Reif and by CEO Paolo Scaroni, sees Eni confirm the research partnership in the energy sector and represents a new step for a collaboration that has already achieved excellent results. Eni is a Founding Member of MITEI, a strategic partner since its launch and the main financier of programs in the research center. Eni’s contribution will be of at least $5 million a year for the promotion of research projects that span across the entire energy sector: hydrocarbons, methane hydrates, solar energy. Scientific research in the field of renewable energy and in particular solar energy has been the focus of cooperation between Eni and MITEI since May 2010, which led to the creation of the Solar Frontiers Center. This joint research center has so far distinguished itself for the development of printed solar cells, and in the coming years it will explore flexible photovoltaics, solar concentrators and applications of biotechnology in the field of innovative materials. Eni, as a Founding Member of MITEI, supports research grants and postdocs, young researchers and most innovative talent in the field of energy. Eni and MIT, who signed their first research agreement in January 2008, have set up in Italy workshops and conferences to promote the sharing of knowledge on the future of sustainable energy.
